3' x 3' (square) Swiss Flag with grommets and double-stitched edges to reduce fraying.
✍️ The Design: IMO, one of the best national flags out there! The Swiss flag is a masterpiece of heraldic simplicity, featuring a bold white symmetrical cross centered on a vibrant red field. While most national banners are rectangular, the Swiss flag is famously unique for its square 1:1 proportion—a tradition rooted in its history as a medieval military ensign. (Curious why it's a square? See my full video about that here).
The origins of the flag date back to the late 13th and early 14th centuries, particularly the Battle of Laupen in 1339, where Swiss soldiers sewn white crosses onto their tunics to distinguish themselves on the battlefield. The white cross eventually became the symbol of the Old Swiss Confederacy, representing freedom, honor, and the shared values of the cantons. In 1889, the federal government officially standardized the design we see today.
Today, this iconic square banner is a global symbol of quality, neutrality, and precision. It stands as a proud tribute to Switzerland’s long-standing independence and its unique place in the heart of Europe.
