Washington DC Flag

3' x 5' polyester Washington D.C. Flag with two grommets, double-stitched top and bottom edges, and a triple-stitched fly edge to reduce fraying.

✍️ The Design: Adopted on October 15, 1938, after a campaign by local civic leaders, this design is consistently ranked by vexillologists as one of the best municipal flag designs in the country. The layout features a white field with two horizontal red bars and three five-pointed red stars across the top.

The layout is derived directly from the family coat of arms of George Washington, the city's namesake.

Flag Nerd Fact: George Washington's ancestral coat of arms dates all the way back to 12th-century England (from his family's home at Washington Old Hall). While the design honors the first president, many District residents today also view the stars as representing the three original neighborhoods that made up the capital: Washington, Georgetown, and Washington County.
