The Muth jar has been around since the 1880s. It was one of the first jars designed specifically for honey — not repurposed from canning or food storage, but built for honey from the start. The embossed sides, tapered neck, and cork closure are all part of the original design, and they haven't changed because they didn't need to. The form works, and it looks like honey is supposed to look.
It's the jar that gets noticed at a farmers market table when it's sitting next to classic oval jars. Customers who recognize it reach for it immediately; customers who don't recognize it pick it up because it looks different. Either way, the jar does the work for you.
The 16 oz Muth jar holds approximately 16 oz (454 g) of honey by weight — about 1⅓ cups. The actual fluid volume is 10.67 fl oz. Like all honey-specific jars, it's sized by honey weight rather than liquid volume. It doesn't use a threaded lid — it seals with a cork. We sell the 16 oz Muth Jar Corks separately. Make sure you're ordering the 16 oz corks specifically — the 8 oz Muth jar uses a different cork size and they're not interchangeable.
The 16 oz Muth jar requires the 16 oz Muth Jar Corks. The 8 oz jar uses a different, smaller cork. The two are not interchangeable. We've seen customers order the wrong size — check the product page for each cork before ordering if you're running both jar sizes.
Glass jars are available for local pickup at our store in Birmingham, Alabama, or can be shipped via ground or freight. Shipping glass is at the customer's risk — we're not responsible for breakage in transit, but you can add shipping insurance at checkout.
