A versatile cypress spacer designed to support feeding, ventilation, moisture control, and treatment placement throughout the year, including winter hive management.
The Cypress Spacer and Feeder Rim is a multi-purpose hive component designed to support feeding, ventilation, and seasonal hive management. It can be used as a feeder rim, a placement area for varroa treatments, an upper entrance, or as a quilt board during winter.
The top of the rim features pre-drilled holes covered with removable screens. When left in place, the screens allow ventilation to move from the bottom of the hive up and out through the top. When removed, the openings can serve as an upper entrance. The bottom of the rim is fitted with a large screen that supports feeders, treatments, and other materials while allowing bees to pass through freely.
When top feeding with baggie feeders or a top feeder, a spacer is required so bees can access the feed properly. This rim provides that necessary space. During winter, fondant or dry sugar can be placed directly inside the rim for bee access. Absorbent materials such as wood chips can also be placed on the screened area to collect moisture and prevent condensation from dripping back down onto the bees.
This design allows items placed on the screen to be added or removed easily, without spilling or disturbing the colony.
Some varroa treatments need to be placed near the brood nest and this rim can be used with hopguard, formic pro, Apiguard Varroa Mite Treatment, and other similar treatments.
