Varroa Mite Boards, also known as IPM boards, sticky boards, or slide-in trays, are used to monitor mite levels in a hive. They slide into the back of a screened bottom board and help beekeepers make informed treatment decisions.
The Varroa Mite Board is a simple but important tool for monitoring mite levels in a colony. It is inserted beneath a screened bottom board, where naturally falling varroa mites land on the surface of the board.
By leaving the board in place for 24 hours, beekeepers can count the number of mites that fall and use that information to determine whether treatment is necessary. While the board does not reduce mite populations on its own, it plays a key role in Integrated Pest Management (IPM) by helping guide treatment decisions.
The board features a high-contrast checkerboard design that makes the reddish-brown varroa mites easier to see. A numbered grid layout helps beekeepers keep track of counts and stay organized during inspections.
In addition to monitoring mites, the board can also be used during colder weather to reduce airflow through the bottom of the hive, helping bees maintain cluster temperature more efficiently.
Available in sizes for both 10-frame and 8-frame hives, this board is a useful addition to any beekeeper’s mite management strategy.
