This 10-frame queen excluder with a wooden frame is used to separate the brood area from the honey supers. It helps keep the queen confined to the brood box while allowing worker bees to move freely throughout the hive.
10-frame design: Fits standard 10-frame Langstroth equipment
Wooden frame construction: Durable outer frame for stability and easy handling
Wire grid center: Prevents the queen from passing while allowing worker bees through
Bee space design: Grid is spaced to allow movement above and below
Brood control: Helps keep eggs out of honey supers
A queen excluder is placed between the brood box and honey supers to prevent the queen from laying eggs in the honey harvest area. The wire grid openings are sized to allow worker bees to pass freely while preventing the larger queen from moving upward.
This model features a wooden outer frame for strength and easier placement within the hive. The wire mesh is positioned to provide space on either side, allowing bees to move comfortably through the excluder without it sitting flush against the top bars.
By keeping brood confined to the lower boxes, beekeepers can maintain cleaner honey supers and simplify harvesting.
Queen excluders are placed on the hive when honey boxes are added to the hive, usually during the early spring. Learn more about if you should use a queen excluder on our blog.
